BARLINES

Selecting a Barline will open the Barline Palette. With this palette, you are able to quickly add measures, rehearsal marks, or change keys and time signatures.

Note: The Barline Palette is different from the Staff Palette (opened by selecting the first barline on a staff), which is used for adding things like labels or brackets and braces.

Insert Measure: Pressing this button inserts a measure after the selected barline.

Text: Selecting the Text button allows you to input special instructions for a measure. Select a preset from the list, or type your own customized phrase. Once you have input the text, you may select it and a Drag Handle will appear, allowing you to adjust where on your staff the text will sit.

Time Signature: This will open the Time Signature palette, where commonly used time signatures will be displayed. For an uncommon or custom time signature, select the ... button and the Custom time Signature window will open. Use the Up/Down arrows to select which Time Signature you would like to use, then press "Okay" when done.

Key Signature: The Key Signature button opens up a sub palette, which displays a variety of keys to choose from. Simply press the button for which key you would like to use, and it will be added to the measure.

Drag Handle: Drag Handles allow you to move selected items in the program. By selecting an item (ranging from notes and dynamics to articulations or even text) and adjusting its Drag Handle, you can maneuver the selected item to make your notation appear less "cluttered." In this particular example, moving the Drag Handle adjusts the width of the measure by moving the selected barline.

Barline Options: Pressing the ... button will open the Barline Options palette. Through this palette, you are able to apply the following options to your measure:

Single Bar: This changes the barline to a standard, single bar. This is also the default for barline entry.

Repeat Start: This changes the selected barline to a begin repeat bar.
Repeat End: This changes the selected barline to an end repeat bar.
Double Repeat: This changes the selected barline to a double repeat bar.
End: This changes the selected barline to an end barline.
Dashed: This changes the selected barline to a dashed barline.
Double Bar: This changes the selected barline to a double barline.
Rehearsal Markers: Selecting this button opens the Rehearsal Marker window, where you may choose the style and font of your rehearsal markers. You may choose from letters, numbers or symbols. When you have chosen your rehearsal marker, select "Okay" in the window, and the marker will be applied above the selected barline.

To remove a Rehearsal Marker, simply select the Rehearsal Marker and press the "Delete" button.

Coda: This adds a coda above the selected barline. Once the coda has been added, you may adjust how close/far the coda is to the barline by selecting it and moving the Drag Handle.

Segno: This adds a segno above the selected barline. Once the segno has been added, you may adjust how close/far the coda is to the barline by selecting it and moving the Drag Handle.

DC/DS: Selecting the DC/DS button opens a new window that contains various different notation instructions.

For instructions regarding a specific style the music should be played, please reference the Text Tool.

Endings: This button opens a new window when selected that allows you to add an Ending to the score. Simply select which ending and how many measures you would like the ending to last, then press "Okay."

To remove an ending, select the ending above the measure(s) and press the "Delete" button.

Line Break: Adds a Line Break above the selected barline. Line breaks create a new line for all notation input after the Line Break symbol on the staff.

Page Break: Adds a Page break to the selected barline. Page breaks print any notation after the Page Break symbol on a new page.

Breath Mark: Adds a breath mark above the selected barline. Once the breath mark has been added, you may adjust its orientation to the staff by selecting the breath mark and maneuvering the Drag Handle.

To remove the breath mark, select it and press the "Delete" button.

Delete: Deletes the measure associated with the selected barline.
