Installing Pyware on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

Post by mark » Wed Jul 25, 2012 5:23 pm

If you are attempting to install Pyware on Mac OS X 10.8, you'll need to do the following to get around the "damaged installer" error message:

One of the new "security" features that is enabled by default in OS X 10.8 will NOT ALLOW any applications to run that were not purchased through the Mac App Store or signed by the Apple Developer Center.

There's nothing wrong with the installer. In fact, the "damaged" error message is extremely misleading. To run the installer for 3D, and any other program that you didn't acquire from the App Store, you'll need to do the following:

Go to your System Preferences (inside Applications). Open the Security & Privacy section. On the General tab of Security & Privacy, choose the Anywhere option for "Allow applications downloaded from:." You may need to click the padlock and enter your administrator log-in information to make this change.

Once the changed is applied, you'll be able to run the installer.

Maybe Pyware can get on the App Store in the future?
That couldn't be all bad, can it?

New Installers of 3D Version 6 and Version 7, as well as PPT have been uploaded to install properly without adjusting the Security settings.

Please download the update for your version at http://www.pyware.com/updates.html.

Dustin,

I've just upgraded to a new Mac (running osX 10.8.3) and even though I launch the software (7.0.4) and it goes through the authorization process, and says it is authorized. Each time I relaunch it, it goes through the same reauthorization process... any hints?

Thanks!

David

Mountain Lion changed permissions on some folders during installation and our folder has become read only this is why you are having issues.

1) Go to the Go menu in Finder.
2) Choose Go to Folder
3) Go to /Library/Application Support/.
4) Click on the Pyware 3D v7 folder and get info.
5) Change the file permissions to Read/Write for everyone and apply to all enclosed items.

That should correct the issue for you.
Thank you

Well, I did that and I still get the "Unauthorized" version after it has been authorized... any other thoughts?

Delete the /Library/Application Support/Pyware 3D v7 folder and then restart the machine.
Then restart 3D and it will be a fresh activation window for you.

Nope! No luck

It still shows up as "Deactivated" even though it goes through all the motions. Even while it's telling me it is deactivated, the splash screen for Pyware shows it as a valid installtion with a valid user ID and number...

Also, I no longer have a Pyware folder in /Library/Application Support/

Something is not right and I'm not sure what it is... clearly this move has NOT been a good one. Is a full reinstall on the horizon? If so, I need to keep all of my data and such, otherwise this is going to be a HUGH amount of work. I need to get this working properly as I'm starting to write drill.

Dustin,

I think I got this solved... I made the Application Support folder 'writable' and then re-registered the software using my serial number. It now seems to be working as designed! I'm hoping that's all I needed to do, but so far so good.
